Introducing the Limited Edition Bremont RFU 150
By Amanda Evans | 3 minute read
Award-winning British luxury watch brand Bremont, is the Official Timing Partner to both England Rugby and Twickenham Stadium. As the Rugby Football Union (RFU) celebrates its 150th anniversary, Bremont commemorates this sporting milestone with the release of its Limited Edition RFU 150 watch. Limited to just 150 pieces, this anniversary timepiece marks this historic occasion.
The Bremont RFU 150 timepiece harnesses the shared values of durability, technical ability and precision, qualities which were key to the foundation of the partnership. The 43mm satin and polished stainless-steel case features an automatic helium escape valve and crown protector and houses a chronometer rated movement with 24h GMT hand which underpins its precision. The watch also features the Bremont patented protective anti-shock movement mount which further enhances its resilience. It comes fitted with a uni-directional rotating bezel in blue ceramic featuring indicators that show the onset of half or full time in red and extra-time in white, allowing keen timekeepers to keep their finger on the pulse of the match. The dial draws inspiration from the alternative kit of the England rugby team with a blue hue, and the inner dial features the word ‘Twickenham’ as a proud reflection of the partnership. A highlight of the closed case back is the new and especially designed Heritage Rose emblem that marks the 150th anniversary and draws inspiration from the first rose that ever featured on the players’ caps in 1871, and still remains there today.
It was an incredibly proud moment for me when I first saw Bremont timekeeping presiding over play at Twickenham, both an iconic stadium and an English institution. It has obviously been an incredibly challenging year for sport but not being able to enjoy sport in the same way has certainly highlighted its importance for so many. England Rugby really is as good as it gets and speaks to the core of what Bremont has always been about with our maxim of being Tested Beyond Endurance. We’re very much looking forward to seeing the Guinness Six Nations kick off and we’re thrilled to be part of these anniversary celebrations, commemorating such a landmark year in the sport. GILES ENGLISH, BREMONT CO-FOUNDER
Bremont was immensely proud to announce its partnership with the RFU which kicked off in 2020. A fitting collaboration between the Henley-on-Thames based British brand who share common values with the RFU in pushing the boundaries of endurance. Bremont deliver all the official time-related match day content to include the stadium’s branded match clocks. The brand first celebrated the inauguration prior to the Guinness Six Nations 2020 with the well-received Rose timepiece and Bremont is now delighted to extend this offering with the new RFU 150 to commemorate this significant anniversary.
THE RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION: IN THE BEGINNING
It was back in 1871 that it took a mere 2 hours for a chaired meeting of 21 clubs represented by 32 people, to establish the Rugby Football Union. Algernon Rutter of Richmond was elected as the first President and two sub-committees were formed and tasked with writing the rules of the game along with choosing a team to challenge the rugby footballers of Scotland. Not long afterwards, other countries formed their own unions but the RFU remained the authority of rugby until the International Rugby Board was formed in 1886 and subsequently joined by the RFU in 1890. It wasn’t until 1907 that the Union committee decided that it was about time they had their own stadium which was founded in Twickenham. The first match played at Twickenham took place in October 1909 between Harlequins and Richmond and the stadium has been home to the England national team and the RFU ever since. Over the years the sport has gone from strength to strength and has become one of the most highly regarded sports in the world with England and Twickenham being at the forefront of its growth and development.
