TAG Heuer Connected: The New Age Of ‘Smart’ Watches with our Buyer Sophie Conroy
Built to deliver ultimate elegance and sporting performance, TAG Heuer has released an exciting new generation of their Connected Watch. A sophisticated yet modern companion, these two new Connected Watches each highlight an aspect of TAG Heuer’s Connected identity: sport and design. A pioneer in the luxury Connected watch segment since 2015, the timepieces give users access to its ever-growing network of apps, including sports activities, weather updates and wellness programs.
We’re delighted to be speaking with our expert Buyer, Sophie Conroy, as she explores the history and the function of the timepieces along with the exciting new features they have to offer. Could you tell us a bit about the history and timeline of the TAG Heuer Connected watches?
The TAG Heuer Connected collection has seen several impressive updates over the years. TAG Heuer entered the luxury connected watch market in 2015 with the TAG Heuer Connected Series I, the first luxury smartwatch with a design inspired by the Carrera Heuer 01 skeleton watch.
Then in 2017, TAG Heuer introduced the Connected Series II, which included modular case constructions as a new feature.
Moving forward to 2020, TAG Heuer debuted Series III, which followed the classic Carrera style more closely than the Carrera Heuer 01 of the original Connected models. For this collection, the modular feature found on previous models was removed, however TAG incorporated the same quick release system as the Calibre 5 Autavia.
Following the very successful launches of previous Connected collections, we are now excited to see the launch of the Connected Calibre E4 this month.
What would you say are the key features of the new TAG Heuer Connected, what type of customer do you see buying these watches?
There are two case sizes available for the new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4. The smaller of the two case sizes, 42mm, has been designed to appeal to all audiences and can be worn at any event, featuring a slimmer case, ergonomic steel pushers, a thin bezel, and bracelet integrated into the design.
The 45mm case size appears strikingly different from the 42mm, with a robust, large ceramic bezel, making it ideal for individuals on the go as well as those who wish to stand out from the crowd.
What features of the new models do you think are the most significant in comparison to previous?
The new models include new digital features such as real-time weather and wellness information, as well as exclusive watch faces such as reinterpretations of classic Connected faces. Pre-set guided workouts have been added to allow users to stay fit on the go without the need for a smartphone nearby, which may also be customized for individuals who have their own routine.
The models also feature a new screen to ensure visibility in all lighting conditions, and the battery life on the 45mm model has been improved by an impressive 30% compared to previous models.
What is your favorite design feature of the new collection?
A trend we continue to see is the reduction in gents case sizes, and we see this again on the 42mm. The thin case design makes for a pleasingly stylish smartwatch when combined with the thin bezel and a choice of display designs, making it the ideal luxury smartwatch for both occasion and everyday use.
This new generation of TAG Heuer Connected opens a new chapter in luxury smartwatches, allowing wearers to combine sophisticated elegance with unbeatable performance.
