Talking Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso With Our Experts
By Sarah Jayne Potter | 3 minute read
As we continue to celebrate the iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso collection, we caught up with our expert buyer on her thoughts about what makes this collection such a classic, as well as highlight her top pieces from the new ranges.
As we continue to celebrate the iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso collection, we caught up with our expert buyer on her thoughts about what makes this collection such a classic, as well as highlight her top pieces from the new ranges.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso collection has been in production since the 1930s. What do you think makes it popular still, almost a century down the line?
A collection that is not only steeped in history but renowned for its reliability and precision, it is no surprise to us that the Reverso model remains predominantly unchanged since its creation. Although it was originally designed for function, the Art Deco aesthetic of the timepiece is truly captivating and undeniably is the reason why this is a bestselling timepiece 90 years after its debut. A watch fanatic or not, any Reverso is sure to catch your attention and make a great statement on the wrist. The evolution of the Reverso has seen a vast range of complications and dial variations, but its popularity comes from the perfected symmetry between form and function which gives it an undoubtedly timeless appeal.
There have been many different variations of the Reverso, which do you think has been the most important, and why?
We cannot ignore that the Classique original design of the Reverso will always be the most important timepiece in this collection. It was ground-breaking in design and innovation and has paved the way for the iconic collection that has gifted us 90 years of excellent additions, all taking its design cues from this historical original.
The brand recently released new Reverso models at watch fair Watches and Wonders, including the intricate and detailed Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185 Quadriptyque that has four faces rather than the usual two for Reverso. Do you think we’ll see more of this kind of development and evolution within the Reverso line from Jager-LeCoultre?
What a way to celebrate 90 years of the Reverso! This is not the first time they have hit the headlines with a technical masterpiece. Jaeger is known for revolutionary technology and will always debut new ground-breaking functions that repeatedly make watchmaking history. I have no doubt Jaeger Le-Coultre are going to slow down any time soon and I can’t wait to see what they do next.
Out of all of the Reverso models available to buy today, which is your ultimate favourite, and why?
My ultimate favourite would have to be the Reverso Classic Duetto. It gives you the option of two different faces that have been thoughtfully designed to have a contemporary feel but make the timepiece still a firm modern classic. With the choice of two completely contrasting dial options, it makes this timepiece a great value for money.
Which piece would you recommend to a new collector from the Reverso models, and why?
The Reverso Tribute monoface small seconds model would be a great addition to any collection. With its origins as a sports design, it is a unique and elegant piece that is extremely versatile. The perfect balance between form and function, this model is the perfect introduction into the world of watchmaking excellence.
Which new Jaeger-LeCoultre piece is on your wish list for this season, and why?
Jaeger-Lecoultre was one of the first and only watch manufactures in the thirties to offer the Reverso with a coloured dial. In homage to the past and in celebration of the anniversary, the new Reverso Tribute monoface small seconds revives the codes of the thirties and their standout-coloured dials. Although Jaeger-LeCoultre are calling upon its glorious archives, this rich intense green could not be more modern.
