The ultimate test: The Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping
Widely considered the greatest challenge in equestrianism, the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping rewards the rider who wins, consecutively, the Grand Prix at three of the four Show Jumping Majors: The Dutch Masters in 's-Hertogenbosch, the CSIO Spruce Meadows' Masters' Tournament in Calgary, the CHIO Aachen, and the CHI Geneva.
Published on April 9, 2024
The Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping is the pinnacle of equestrian achievement, the ultimate challenge every rider aspires to reach. This prestigious series rewards the rider who can consecutively win the Grand Prix at three of the four Majors: the Dutch Masters in' s-Hertogenbosch, the CSIO Spruce Meadows "Masters" Tournament in Calgary, the CHIO Aachen in Germany, and the CHI Geneva. Rolex Testimonee Scott Brash from Scotland remains the only competitor to achieve this remarkable feat, doing so across 2014 and 2015.
The Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping is revered as the holy grail of equestrian sports. It's the epitome of excellence, comparable to winning the Triple Crown in horse racing or clinching a Grand Slam title in tennis. Riders who win all three events consecutively are not just champions; they become legends, achieving an unparalleled trifecta in the equestrian world.
Show jumping is much more than a sport of horses vaulting over hurdles; it's a dynamic and intricate discipline. For Rolex, the sport exemplifies its values perfectly. In an era dominated by technology, show jumping emphasizes the raw, physical connection between rider and horse — a partnership built on trust, communication, and mutual respect. Riders must exhibit physical strength, agility, and mental acuity to navigate challenging courses that demand split-second decisions.
These international competitions unite riders and spectators from around the globe, fostering camaraderie and cultural exchange. The sheer spectacle of show jumping captivates audiences worldwide, providing entertainment and inspiration.
Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping: The Majors
The Dutch Masters
First held in 1967 in the medieval city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Dutch Masters is the Netherlands' premier indoor equestrian competition. It blends magnificent show jumping and elegant dressage, attracting the world's leading competitors. Rolex has been the Main Sponsor and Title Sponsor of The Dutch Masters' Grand Prix since 2014. The 2024 edition, held from March 7-10, culminated with the Rolex Grand Prix on Sunday, marking the year's first Major for the Rolex Grand Slam. Testimonee Daniel Deusser has triumphed here twice, in 2015 and 2022.
The CHIO Aachen World Equestrian Festival
The CHIO Aachen event brings together the world's finest equestrian talent at the revered Aachen Soers showgrounds. From show jumping, dressage, and eventing to vaulting and four-in-hand driving, it offers a unique experience for competitors and spectators alike. Aachen has partnered with Rolex for over 20 years and is a beacon of equestrian tradition and excellence.
CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament
Held in Calgary, Canada, the CSIO Spruce Meadows Masters Tournament is renowned for its spectacular setting and challenging courses. Rolex is the official sponsor of this event, regarded as the leading equestrian gathering in North America. Rolex also presents the CPKC “International” Grand Prix, a key event in the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping.
The CHI Geneva
Rolex has been the Presenting Sponsor of the CHI Geneva, one of the world's most prestigious equestrian competitions, for nearly 30 years. The event, held in the world's largest indoor equestrian arena, attracts top-level riders. Created in 1926, it was named the best indoor show jumping event in the world for the 10th time in 2019 by L'Année Hippique. Highlights include the Rolex Grand Prix and the Rolex International Jumping Riders Club (IJRC) Top 10 Final.
Rolex and equestrianism
Existing as one
Rolex's partnership with equestrianism is built on a foundation of trust, precision, and excellence. This bond mirrors the relationship between rider and horse, where teamwork and perseverance are paramount. By partnering with the most prestigious competitions, Rolex supports riders who continue to write the history of the discipline.
In a world that celebrates peak performance, show jumping showcases the pinnacle of human and equine athleticism. It's a glamorous testament to athleticism and precision, steeped in a rich history.
Winning one of these events is a monumental achievement, but capturing all three in succession is the stuff of dreams. It's a test of skill, nerve, and sheer determination. Those who dare to chase the Rolex Grand Slam are the modern-day champions of the show jumping arena.
